§1097. Freight loss or damage; time for adjustment; amount of liability
Every claim for loss of or damage to property or freight while in the possession of any common carrier doing business in Louisiana shall be adjusted and paid within thirty days in case of shipments wholly within Louisiana and within sixty days in case of shipments from without the state after the filing of such claim with the agent of the common carrier at the point of destination of the shipment. No such claim shall be filed until after the arrival of the shipment or some part of it at the point of destination or until after the lapse of a reasonable time for arrival.
In every case the common carrier is liable for the amount of the loss or damage plus legal interest from the date of the filing of the claim and until the payment.
