§3560. Bossier City; credit for military service
A. In addition to the provisions of any other law, and particularly R.S. 11:3521, any person who is a member of the police pension and relief fund for the city of Bossier City shall be entitled to service credit in such pension and relief fund for active service in the military service of the United States for up to but not in excess of three years of such active military service, whether rendered prior to or after commencement of employment in the police department.
B. Application for credit for such active service shall be made and evidence thereof shall be furnished to the board of trustees of the police pension and relief fund at any time prior to application for retirement. In addition, each person claiming such credit shall pay into the fund, prior to the date of application for retirement, an amount equal to the employer and employee contributions, at the current rate, together with compound interest thereon at the current rate on the compensation which the member would have received during the period of military service for which credit is claimed had he at that time been a member of said retirement system.
For purposes of computation, the following compensation of the person claiming credit will be considered; if the person was employed as a police officer prior to service in the military, the compensation received immediately prior to entry into military service; if the person enters the police force after service in the military, the compensation which he would have received in each of the years for which credit for military service is claimed had he been employed in his beginning classification for police service in the first year for which credit is claimed.
C. The board of trustees of the police pension and relief fund, as soon as practicable after the effective date of this section, shall notify the members of the city of Bossier City police force of the privilege granted by this section, together with necessary information for obtaining such credit.
D. The credit herein authorized shall be only for purposes of the police pension and relief fund and shall not be used to compute time served with the department for purposes of compensation, promotion, longevity or any other purpose.
