§1117. Membership for employees denied membership due to age; application; eligibility
Any person now occupying a position as an employee, as defined by R.S. 11:1002 who was previously denied membership due to age may apply for membership under this Section, provided social security (FICA tax) was not paid on the salary earned and provided credit granted in another publicly supported retirement system covering the same time is not in effect. To become a member, the employee shall pay to the retirement system a member's contribution on all salary earned as an employee, at the contribution rate which was in effect at the time the service was rendered, plus interest at the board-approved actuarial valuation rate from the time the service was rendered until paid.
The employer shall pay to the retirement system the employer’s contribution on all salary earned by the employee, at the contribution rate which was in effect at the time the service was rendered, plus interest at the board-approved actuarial valuation rate from the time the service was rendered until paid. Payments shall be paid prior to the effective date of retirement.
