74-9604. Board of directors; membership; qualification; terms of office; vacancies; chairperson; meetings; no compensation or financial benefit.
(a)The board of directors of the Kansas guardianship program shall consist of seven members as follows:
(1)The chief justice of the supreme court or the chief justice's designee; and
(2)six residents of the state appointed by the governor at least one of whom is serving as a volunteer in the Kansas guardianship program.
(b)Members appointed pursuant to subsection
(a)shall have knowledge and interest in issues relating to guardianship and conservatorship and the needs of adults adjudicated disabled.
(c)Members of the board of directors appointed pursuant to subsection
(a)shall serve for terms of four years, except that the members first appointed by the governor and the chief justice of the supreme court shall serve for terms of two years. Upon the expiration of the terms of the members first appointed by the governor, the governor shall appoint three members to serve for terms of two years and three members to serve for terms of four years. Thereafter, the governor shall appoint members to serve for terms of four years. Any vacancy in a member's term shall be filled by appointment for the unexpired term by the officer who made the original appointment.
(d)The chairperson of the board of directors shall be elected annually by the board from among its members. The board of directors shall meet upon the call of the chairperson.
(e)Members of the board of directors shall serve without pay and no financial benefit shall accrue as a result of membership on the board of directors.
