24-648. Same; duties of trustees. The board of trustees shall function under the name "Board of trustees of drainage district No. ______ of ______________ county, Kansas," and shall have power to sue and be sued. The board shall act as a unit and decide all matters by majority vote and shall elect one of their number chairman and another treasurer and each shall perform the customary duties of his office and the board shall appoint a secretary to the board and may employ attorneys, accountants, and contract for all other services and incur such other expense as they deem necessary.
If vacancies occur on such board the remaining members shall apply to the judge of the court in which the district was incorporated to fill such vacancy and such judge shall appoint to such board an owner of land in the district who signed the disorganization petition. Each member of the board of trustees shall be paid three dollars ($3) for each meeting of the board or day's service. Each person, firm or corporation appointed, or employed by the board shall be paid by the board such amounts as agreed upon.
