Sec. 3-501.1. Transfer or return of vanity or personalized license plates. When any person who has been issued vanity or personalized license plates or digital license plates sells, trades, or otherwise releases the ownership of the vehicle upon which the vanity or personalized license plates or digital license plates have been displayed, he or she shall immediately report the transfer of such plates or digital plates to an acquired motor vehicle pursuant to Section 3-501 and pay the transfer fee or shall, upon the request of the Secretary, immediately return such plates to the Secretary of State.
The right to reassignment of the registration plate or digital registration plate number shall apply as provided in Section 3-421 of this Code.
