Sec. 1. There is created a Board of Sponsors of The Governor's Scholars, consisting of 10 members, 5 of whom shall be named by the Governor. The Director of the Department of Central Management Services shall be an ex officio member, and there shall be 5 academic members who shall be named from cooperating universities by the Governor. Members shall serve until July 1 of each odd-numbered year and until their successors are appointed and qualified. Successors to academic members shall be appointed during the month of June in each odd numbered year.
Vacancies shall be filled by appointment for the unexpired term in the same manner as original appointments are made. Appointments shall be in writing and filed with the Secretary of State as public records. The Board of Sponsors shall elect its own chairman, and a program coordinator for The Governor's Scholars who shall serve as Secretary of the Board of Sponsors without vote.
Members of the Board of Sponsors shall serve without compensation but shall be reimbursed for necessary expenses in connection with the performance of their duties.
