260C.2 Definitions.

When used in this chapter, unless the context otherwise requires:
1. “Bureau” means the community colleges bureau of the higher education division of the department established under section 260C.6.
2. “Bureau chief” means the bureau chief of the community colleges bureau of the higher education division of the department.
3. “Community college” means a publicly supported school which may offer programs of adult and continuing education, lifelong learning, community education, and up to two years of liberal arts, preprofessional, or occupational instruction partially fulfilling the requirements for a baccalaureate degree but confers no more than an associate degree; or which offers as the whole or as part of the curriculum up to two years of career and technical education, training, or retraining to persons who are preparing to enter the labor market.
4. “Department” means the department of education.
5. “Director” means the director of the department of education.
6. “Instructional cost center” means one of the following areas of course offerings of the community colleges:
a. Arts and sciences cost center.
b. Career and technical education preparatory cost center.
c. Career and technical education supplementary cost center.
d. Adult basic education and high school completion cost center.
e. Continuing and general education cost center.
7. “Merged area” means an area where two or more school systems or parts of school systems merge resources to operate a community college in the manner provided in this chapter.
8. “State board” means the state board of education.
