§121-36 Responsibility for property. Every officer commanding a unit shall be charged with and be responsible for the arms, accouterments, ammunition, clothing, or other military property or stores issued to or belonging to the officer's command, and shall be accountable to the State for the same in case of their being lost or damaged otherwise than by unavoidable accident, or in actual service. All officers and members of the militia having arms or other property of the State in their possession shall be accountable to the State in a like manner.
