705.18 Disposal of personal property lost or abandoned on university or Florida College System institution campuses; disposition of proceeds from sale.

Whenever any lost or abandoned personal property is found on a campus of an institution in the State University System or a campus of a Florida College System institution, the president of the institution or the president’s designee shall take charge of the property and make a record of the date such property was found. If the property is not claimed by the owner within 30 days after it is found, or a longer period of time as may be deemed appropriate by the president, the president or his or her designee shall dispose of or make use of the property in accordance with established policies and procedures that best meet the needs of the university or the Florida College System institution and its students.
The rightful owner of the property may reclaim the property at any time prior to the disposition, sale, or use of the property in accordance with this section and the established policies and procedures of the university or the Florida College System institution.
