(a)Not later than January 1, 2024, each local and regional board of education shall ensure that a transition coordinator has been designated, who may be the director of pupil personnel or another employee of such board appointed as transition coordinator by such director. Each transition coordinator shall
(1)complete the training program developed by the Department of Education pursuant to subsection
(a)of section 10-74q , provided
(A)each transition coordinator appointed prior to the date upon which the training program commences shall complete such training program during the three-year period immediately following such date, and
(B)each new transition coordinator appointed after such date shall complete such training program not later than one year after being appointed, and
(2)ensure that parents of students requiring special education receive information concerning transition resources, transition services or transition programs in accordance with section 10-74n and are aware of the eligibility requirements and application details of such resources, services and programs that specifically apply to such student.
(b)Each educator and paraeducator who provides special education for students fourteen years of age or older shall complete the training program developed by the Department of Education pursuant to subsection
(a)of section 10-74q , provided
(1)each such educator and paraeducator hired prior to the date upon which the training program commences shall complete such training program during the five-year period immediately following such date, and
(2)each such educator and paraeducator hired after such date shall complete such training program not later than one year from the date such educator or paraeducator is hired to provide such services.
