(a)In expending funds made available pursuant to Section 80070, and giving first priority to the department’s criteria for expenditure of funds for deferred maintenance including infrastructure needs to protect public safety, the department shall use best efforts to expend at least ten million dollars ($10,000,000) in each of the following regions for state park units and properties deferred maintenance projects and projects that may increase tourism and visitor experiences in those regions:
(1)Central Valley, from the City of Sacramento to the base of the Tehachapi Mountains.
(2)Central Coast.
(3)East Bay.
(4)County of Imperial and the Coachella Valley.
(5)Inland Empire.
(b)To the extent the department is unable to allocate funds for parks deferred maintenance in the regions identified in this section, it shall report to the appropriate policy and fiscal committees of the Legislature on the reasons it is unable to do so.
