The State Department of Education shall establish criteria for the allocation of funds to intergenerational education programs. These criteria shall include all of the following:
(a)The programs shall involve persons over 55 years of age in projects with elementary or secondary public school pupils.
(b)The programs shall, when possible, involve creative and innovative approaches to teaching and intergenerational interaction.
(c)The programs may, and are encouraged to, provide a minimum salary or stipend or transportation costs, or both, to participating senior citizens. The programs shall consider financial need of prospective participating senior citizens as one factor in selection, but not necessarily to the exclusion of other factors such as experience or special skills.
(d)The programs shall comply with in-kind services or cash matching requirements established by the State Department of Education.
(e)The programs shall provide evidence of their commitment to procure community, corporate, and other support, including funding.
