The department shall develop and implement regulations for continuing education for persons licensed pursuant to this chapter on or before January 1, 1992, after consulting with the multidisciplinary committee established pursuant to Section 1228, and other appropriate organizations. On and after January 1, 1994, the department shall require not more than 12 hours of continuing education completed within a 12-month period or not more than 24 hours of continuing education completed within a 24-month period as a condition for renewal of a license issued under this chapter.
The department may establish a fee for the implementation of this section, the total fees collected not to exceed the total costs to the program for the implementation of this requirement.
