Sec. 9. Support for development of secure, energy-efficient crypto-mining hardware

The Director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology shall take such actions as the Director considers appropriate to support the development of secure, energy-efficient hardware for the mining of cryptocurrency. In carrying out paragraph (1), the Director may award grants to design rigs for the mining of cryptocurrency that meets United States cybersecurity standards. The Director shall, acting through the Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership, provide assistance to United States manufacturers to retool for the production of secure, energy-efficient hardware for the mining of cryptocurrency.
The Director may, acting through the Partnership, provide technical assistance to United States persons who manufacturer hardware that can be used for the mining of cryptocurrency.
