Section 409 of title 17, United States Code, is amended— by inserting
(a)before In general .— The application ; in subsection (a)(8), as so designated, by striking the semicolon and inserting the following: , unless the work— is a pictorial, graphic, or sculptural work; is a United States work; and was created after March 1, 1989; ; and by adding at the end the following: In order to facilitate an efficient process for the submission of an application for copyright registration, the Register of Copyrights shall implement as expeditiously as practicable and maintain a contemporary public-facing interface that is interoperable with software commonly used by professional creators such that the deposits and information required under section 408 and this section can be automatically transmitted and populate an online registration application. .
