Sec. 104. Shared stewardship

The Secretary concerned shall seek to use an existing shared stewardship agreement, modify an existing shared stewardship agreement, or enter into a similar agreement with the Governor of each State and Indian Tribe that contains a fireshed management area designated under section 101(a) to jointly— promote the reduction of wildfire exposure, based on the criteria described in clauses
(i)through
(iii)of section 101(a)(1)(B), in fireshed management areas across jurisdictional boundaries; and conduct fireshed assessments under section 105. With respect to an agreement under subsection (a), the Secretary concerned, on request of the applicable Governor, may— adjust the boundaries of any applicable fireshed management area; and update the agreement to address any new wildfire threats. The Secretary and the Secretary of the Interior may enter into cooperative agreements with units of local government, special districts, end water users, nongovernmental organizations, institutions of higher education, and other entities, at the discretion of the applicable Secretary to carry out the activities described in paragraphs
(1)and
(2)of subsection (a).
