The Secretary, acting through the Chief of the Forest Service, shall establish and carry out 5 pilot projects in units of the National Forest System to restore white oak trees in those units through white oak restoration and natural regeneration practices that are consistent with applicable forest management plans. Of the pilot projects carried out under subsection (a), not fewer than 3 shall be carried out on units of the National Forest System that are reserved or withdrawn from the public domain.
The Secretary may enter into cooperative agreements to carry out the pilot projects under this section. The authority under this section terminates on the date that is 7 years after the date of enactment of this Act.
