Sec. 5153. Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs

Section 1(c) of the State Department Basic Authorities Act of 1956 ( 22 U.S.C. 2651a(c) ), as amended by section 5151 , is further amended by inserting after paragraph
(10)the following: There shall be in the Department of State an Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs who shall be responsible to the Secretary of State, acting through the Under Secretary for Political Affairs, for— matters relating to South and Central Asia; and such other related duties as the Secretary may from time to time designate. In addition to the responsibilities described under subparagraph (A), the Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs shall maintain continuous observation and coordination of all matters pertaining to implementation of United States foreign policy in South and Central Asia. . Section 122 of the Foreign Relations Authorization Act, Fiscal Years 1992 and 1993 ( 22 U.S.C. 2652 ) is hereby repealed.
