Section 1(c) of the State Department Basic Authorities Act of 1956 ( 22 U.S.C. 2651a(c) ), as amended by section 5155 , is further amended by inserting after paragraph
(12)the following: There shall be in the Department of State an Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs who shall be responsible to the Secretary of State, acting through the Under Secretary for Political Affairs, for— matters relating to Europe and Eurasia; and such other related duties as the Secretary may from time to time designate. In addition to the responsibilities described under subparagraph (A), the Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs shall maintain continuous observation and coordination of all matters pertaining to implementation of United States foreign policy in Europe and Eurasia. .
