The Comptroller General of the United States shall conduct a study on the feasibility of establishing data matching agreements for public service loan forgiveness under section 455(m) of the Higher Education Act of 1965 ( 20 U.S.C. 1087e(m) ) that would allow a borrower to forego requesting certification of employment from the appropriate contact for the public service job of the borrower. The study shall include an examination of the Department of Education and the Department of Defense’s progress towards automatic data matching for military and veteran borrowers.
Not later than 1 year after the date of enactment of this Act, the Comptroller General shall submit a report to the Committee on Education and Workforce of the House of Representatives and the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions of the Senate containing the findings and recommendations resulting from the study required under subsection (a). The head of each relevant Federal agency, including the Secretary of Education, Secretary of Defense, and Commissioner of Internal Revenue, shall cooperate with the Comptroller General to facilitate the completion of the study required under subsection (a).
