In this section: The terms equity security , exchange , and issuer have the meanings given the terms in section 3 of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 ( 15 U.S.C. 78c ). The term national securities exchange means an exchange registered under section 6 of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 ( 15 U.S.C. 78f ). Notwithstanding any other provision of law, during any period that an agricultural issuer has a contract or receives funding from the Department of Agriculture, the agricultural issuer may not— purchase an equity security of the issuer or any parent company of the issuer on a national securities exchange; or pay dividends or other capital distributions on an equity security of the issuer.
