Sec. 1243. Indo-Pacific Maritime Domain Awareness Initiative

Not later than 90 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Defense, in coordination with the Secretary of State, shall seek to establish an initiative with allies and partners of the United States, including Australia, Japan, and India, to be known as the Indo-Pacific Maritime Domain Awareness Initiative (in this section referred to as the Initiative ), to bolster maritime domain awareness in the Indo-Pacific region. In carrying out the Initiative, the Secretary of Defense may use the authorities provided in chapter 16 of title 10, United States Code, and other applicable statutory authorities available to the Secretary of Defense.
The purposes of the Initiative are as follows: To enhance the ability of allies and partners of the United States in the Indo-Pacific region to fully monitor the maritime domain of such region. To leverage emerging technologies to support maritime domain awareness objectives. To provide a comprehensive understanding of the maritime domain in the Indo-Pacific region, including by facilitating information sharing among such allies and partners. Not later than March 1, 2024, the Secretary of Defense shall submit to the congressional defense committees a report that outlines ongoing and planned activities of the Initiative, and the resources needed to carry out the such activities, for fiscal year 2025.
