Section 1814(a)(7)(D)(i)(II) of the Social Security Act ( 42 U.S.C. 1395f(a)(7)(D)(i)(II) ) is amended by striking during the emergency period and all that follows through ending on December 31, 2024 and inserting the following: during and after the emergency period described in section 1135(g)(1)(B) . The Secretary of Health and Human Services shall request the National Academy of Medicine to submit a report to Congress, not later than 3 years after the date of enactment of this Act, evaluating the impact of section 1814(a)(7)(D)(i)(II) of the Social Security Act ( 42 U.S.C. 1395f(a)(7)(D)(i)(II) ), as amended by subsection (a), on— the number and percentage of beneficiaries recertified for the Medicare hospice benefit at 180 days and for subsequent benefit periods; the appropriateness for hospice care of the patients recertified through the use of telehealth; and any other factors determined appropriate by the National Academy of Medicine.
