Section 594 of title 18, United 6 States Code, is amended— by striking Whoever intimidates and inserting the following: Whoever intimidates ; and by adding at the end the following new subsection: Whoever intimidates, threatens, coerces, or attempts to intimidate, threaten, coerce, any election worker with intent to impede, intimidate, or interfere with such election worker while engaged in the performance of official duties, or with intent to retaliate against such election worker on account of the performance of official duties shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both For purposes of paragraph (1), the term election worker means any individual who is an election official, poll worker, or an election volunteer in connection with an election for a Federal office. .
