Not later than 120 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the, the Secretary of Defense shall develop a clear and comprehensive protocol for the use of oral rehydration solutions in preventing heat casualties, dehydration, and hyponatremia in initial training. In the development of such protocol, the Secretary shall incorporate— the latest data, analysis and information regarding the use of oral rehydration solutions by Special Operations Command; the latest data, analysis and information regarding the use of oral rehydration solutions by professional sports teams; the latest data, analysis and information regarding the use of oral rehydration solutions by the National Training Center, Fort Irwin; and the guidance included in the June 20, 2016, Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine report entitled Guidance Concerning Commercial Electrolyte Replacement Beverages and Hyponatremia Risk During Hot Weather Training .
