Section 2708 of title 14, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following: The Coast Guard may provide a cash allowance in such amount as the Secretary of the department in which the Coast Guard is operating shall determine in regulations to be paid to pregnant officer personnel for the purchase of maternity-related uniform items if such uniform items are not so furnished to the member. .
