The Secretary of State, in coordination with the Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development and the Secretary of Commerce, is authorized to provide support and technical assistance to Pacific Islands to address the impacts of sea level rise with the aim of— protecting and mitigating the impacts of sea level rise on coastal communities and their economies; protecting and increasing the resilience of critical coastal infrastructure; preserving Pacific Islands maritime boundaries and their entitlements; preserving Pacific Islands’ statehoods; providing support to Pacific Islands to develop and implement effective and just migration policies that address the impacts of sea level rise on communities and provide options for those who wish to migrate; collaborating with international organizations and Pacific Island to provide humanitarian assistance to those affected by sea level rise, including through access to food, water, and shelter; and supporting efforts to build resilience and sustainable livelihoods in affected communities, including through the development of alternative economic opportunities and sustainable agriculture practices.
