Sec. 1085. Guidance for use of unmanned aircraft systems by National Guard

Not later than 90 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Defense shall issue new guidance on the use of unmanned aircraft systems by the National Guard for covered activities. Not later than 60 days after the date on which the Secretary issues the new guidance under subsection (a), the Secretary shall provide to the Committee on Armed Services of the House of Representatives. Such briefing shall include— an explanation of whether the new guidance is more restrictive than guidance on the use of other types of aircraft for covered activities; and if the new guidance is more restrictive, an explanation for the reasons why such guidance is more restrictive.
In this section, the term covered activities means any of the following: Emergency operations. Search and rescue operations. Defense support to civil authorities. Support provided under section 502(f) of title 32, United States Code.
