Subsection
(a)of section 1681 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017 ( Public Law 114–328 ; 10 U.S.C. 4205 note) is amended to read as follows: It is the policy of the United States— to research, develop, test, procure, deploy, and sustain, with funding subject to the annual authorization of appropriations for National Missile Defense, systems that provide effective, layered missile defense capabilities to defeat increasingly complex missile threats in all phases of flight; and to maintain a credible nuclear capability as the foundation of strategic deterrence. .
