Sec. 1645. Assessment of the ability of the United States to detect low-yield nuclear weapon tests

The Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, in coordination with the Director of National Intelligence, shall conduct an assessment of the ability of the United States to detect and monitor supercritical nuclear weapon tests conducted at very low yields. Not later than 270 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency shall submit to the congressional defense committees a report on the results of the assessment conducted under subsection (a).
The report shall include specific recommendations for improving the ability of the United States to detect and monitor low-yield nuclear weapon tests conducted at the Novaya Zemlya nuclear test site of the Russian Federation and the Lop Nor nuclear test site of the People’s Republic of China as well as globally. The report under subsection
(b)may be submitted in classified form, but if so submitted shall include an unclassified summary.
