Section 217(c)(1) of the William M.
(Mac)Thornberry National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021 ( Public Law 116–283 ; 10 U.S.C. 4001 note) is amended— by striking 2025 and inserting 2029 ; by redesignating subparagraphs
(A)through
(D)as clauses
(i)through (iv), respectively; by striking including a description and inserting including— a description ; by striking the period at the end and inserting a semicolon; and by adding at the end the following new subparagraphs: for each technology area identified under subsection (a)(1)— a list of each program element that funds research, development, test, and evaluation activities within that area; and for each such program element— identification of the total amount of funds obligated or expended for research, development, test, and evaluation under that program element in support of the technology area in the fiscal year preceding the date of the report; an estimate of the total amount of funds expected to be obligated or expended for research, development, test, and evaluation under that program element in support of the technology area for the fiscal year in which the report is submitted and each of the following two fiscal years; and an explanation of the reasons for such funding allocations; and an assessment of any policies, processes, or systems of the Department of Defense that have been modified, or that are expected to be modified, as a result of the Department’s investments and other efforts in the technology areas identified under subsection (a)(1) to compete in an era of strategic competition, with an emphasis on those policies, processes, or systems involved in transitioning technologies from the research and development phase to formal acquisition programs or operational use within the Department. .
