In this Act: The term burnout means exhaustion and mental distance from one’s job. The term loneliness means subjectively feeling alone, or the discrepancy between one’s desired level of social connection and one’s actual level of social connection. The term social connection means the variety of ways one can connect with others socially, through physical, behavioral, social-cognitive, and emotional channels. The term social isolation means objectively being alone, or having few relationships or infrequent social contact.
The term underserved communities includes communities with a high proportion of individuals who— are socioeconomically disadvantaged; have limited English proficiency; are geographically isolated; are educationally disenfranchised; are individuals of color; are of ethnic or national origin minorities; are women or children; have disabilities; or are seniors.
