Not later than December 31, 2023, the Secretary of Defense shall conduct a review and submit to the Committee on Armed Services of the Senate and the Committee on Armed Services of the House of Representatives a report on the rates of suicides in the Armed Forces, beginning after September 11, 2001, disaggregated by year, military job code (Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC), Army Military Occupational Specialty (MOS), Navy Enlisted Classification (NEC)/Billet, and Coast Guard Ratings), and status as active duty, guard, and reserve (as applicable per service). The report required under subsection
(a)shall include the following elements: A compilation of suicide data by military job code to determine which military career fields have a higher per capita suicide rate compared to— other military career fields for the same period; the overall suicide rate for each service for the same period; the overall suicide rate for the Department of Defense for the same period; and the national suicide rate for the same period. A disaggregation of suicide data by age categories consistent with the Department of Defense Annual Suicide Report age categories. Not later than June 1, 2023, the Secretary of Defense shall provide to the Committee on Armed Services of the Senate and the Committee on Armed Services of the House of Representatives a briefing on the preliminary findings of the review conducted under this section.
