Sec. 1049. Department of Defense support for funerals and memorial events for Members and former Members of Congress

Chapter 3 of title 10, United States Code, is amended by inserting after section 130 the following new section: The Secretary of Defense may provide such support as the Secretary considers appropriate for the funeral or related memorial events of a Member or former Member of Congress, including support with respect to transportation to and from the funeral or other memorial events, in accordance with this section. The Secretary may provide support under this section— upon request from the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, the Majority Leader of the Senate, or the Minority Leader of the Senate; or if the Secretary determines such support is necessary to carry out duties or responsibilities of the Department of Defense.
The Secretary may use funds authorized to be appropriated for operations and maintenance to provide support under this section. . The table of sections at the beginning of such chapter is amended by inserting after the item relating to section 130 the following new item: 130a. Department of Defense support for funerals and memorial events for Members and former Members of Congress. .
