Sec. 6. National Advisory Committee on Wildland Fire Risk Reduction

The Director shall establish an advisory committee on wildland fire risk reduction. The committee established under paragraph
(1)shall be known as the National Advisory Committee on Wildland Fire Risk Reduction (in this section referred to as the Advisory Committee ). The Advisory Committee shall be composed of not fewer than 7 and not more than 15 members selected by the Director from among those who the Director considers are qualified to provide advice on wildland fire risk reduction and represent related scientific, architectural, and engineering disciplines, including the following: Representatives of research and academic institutions. Standards development organizations. Emergency management agencies. State, local, Tribal, and territorial governments. Business communities. Such others as the Director considers appropriate. None of the members of the Advisory Committee may be employees of the Federal Government. The Advisory Committee shall carry out assessments and develop recommendations on— trends and developments in the natural, engineering, and social sciences and practices of wildfire risk mitigation; the priorities of the Program’s strategic plan described in section 5(f); the management, coordination, implementation, and activities of the Program; the effectiveness of the Program in meeting its purposes; and any need to revise the Program. The members of the Advisory Committee shall serve without compensation. Not less frequently than once every 2 years, the Advisory Committee shall submit to the Director a report on the assessments carried out under subsection
(b)and the recommendations developed under such subsection. Notwithstanding section 14(b)(2) of the Federal Advisory Committee Act (5 U.S.C. App.), the Advisory Committee shall not be required to file a charter subsequent to its initial charter, filed under section 9(c) of such Act, before the termination date specified in subsection
(g)of this section. The Advisory Committee shall terminate on September 30, 2026. An Advisory Committee member shall recuse themselves from any Advisory Committee activity in which they have an actual pecuniary interest.
