In this title: The term COVID–19 public health emergency means the period— beginning on the date that the Secretary of Health and Human Services declared a public health emergency under section 319 of the Public Health Service Act ( 42 U.S.C. 247d ), with respect to COVID–19; and ending on the later of the end of such public health emergency, or January 1, 2023. The term respectful maternity care refers to care organized for, and provided to, pregnant and postpartum individuals in a manner that— is culturally congruent; maintains their dignity, privacy, and confidentiality; ensures freedom from harm and mistreatment; and enables informed choice and continuous support.
The term Secretary means the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
