Section 619(a) of title 10, United States Code, is amended— in paragraph (2), by striking paragraph
(4)and inserting paragraph
(5); by redesignating paragraphs
(4)and
(5)as paragraphs
(5)and (6), respectively; and by inserting after paragraph
(3)the following new paragraph: When the needs of the service require, the Secretary of the military department concerned may prescribe a shorter period of service in grade, but not less than two years, for eligibility for consideration for promotion, in the case of officers designated for limited duty to whom paragraph
(2)applies. .
