Sec. 401. Housing and homelessness innovation research centers

The Secretary shall establish not less than 1 housing and homelessness innovation research center in each region of the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Each center established under subsection
(a)shall, on an annual basis, submit a report to the Secretary and Congress that includes— recommendations for changes to Federal policy surrounding housing and homelessness; and a study of best practices to preserve low- and middle-cost housing and expand low-cost housing options in the region served by the center, including single room occupancy units, manufactured housing, shelters, housing units under 400 square feet, stacked flats, and accessory dwelling units. There is authorized to be appropriated to carry out this section $100,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2022 through 2031.
