During the detailed design period and prior to the construction start date of the lead ship in the DDG(X) destroyer class of vessels, the Secretary of the Navy shall commence a land-based test program for the engineering plant of such class of vessels. The test program required by subsection
(a)shall be administered by the Senior Technical Authority for the DDG(X) destroyer class of vessels. The test program required by subsection
(a)shall include, at a minimum, testing of the following equipment in vessel-representative form: Electrical propulsion motor. Other propulsion drive train components. Main propulsion system. Electrical generation and distribution systems. Machinery control systems. Power control modules. The test program required by subsection
(a)shall include, at a minimum, the following test objectives demonstrated across the full range of engineering plant operations for the DDG(X) destroyer class of vessels: Test of a single shipboard representative propulsion drive train. Test and facilitation of machinery control systems integration. Simulation of the full range of electrical demands to enable the investigation of load dynamics between the hull, mechanical and electrical equipment, the combat system, and auxiliary equipment. The Secretary of the Navy shall complete the test program required by subsection
(a)by not later than the delivery date of the lead ship in the DDG(X) destroyer class of vessels. In this section: The term delivery date has the meaning given that term in section 8671 of title 10, United States Code. The term Senior Technical Authority means the official designated as the Senior Technical Authority for the DDG(X) destroyer class of vessels pursuant to section 8669b of title 10, United States Code.
