The Attorney General, in consultation with the Secretary of Education, the Secretary of Health and Human Services, and an appointee of the President, shall establish a website, designated as saferschools.gov, to be managed by a task force, known as the School Safety Best Practices Task Force (in this section, referred to as the Task Force ). The duties of the Task Force shall be to review, compile, and publish school safety best practices on the saferschools.gov website. The Task Force shall be composed of 5 members appointed by the Attorney General.
Each member shall be appointed to the Task Force for a term of 5 years. Any members appointed to fill a vacancy occurring before the expiration of the term for which the member’s predecessor was appointed shall be appointed only for the remainder of that term. Members of the Task Force shall serve without pay. The Task Force shall meet at the call of the Chairperson and not less than quarterly. The Paperwork Reduction Act ( 44 U.S.C. 3501 ) shall not apply to this section. The Federal Advisory Committee Act (5 U.S.C.
App.) shall not apply to this section. The saferschools.gov website shall be designed to receive comments from interested parties, which shall be published on such website. In this section: The term interested parties includes students, teachers, parents, law enforcement officers, and any person with an interest in school safety best practices. The term parent has the meaning given such term in section 8101 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 ( 20 U.S.C. 7801 ).
There is authorized to be appropriated $1,000,000 to carry out this section for fiscal year 2023.
