Sec. 859. Review of advances in domestic production of carbon fiber

The Secretary of Defense shall conduct a review of the Department of Defense carbon fiber requirements necessary for current and future weapon system production and sustainment, including— an examination of the access to domestically produced carbon fiber to meet the requirements of the Department; and a review of developments in advanced carbon fiber production processes that can— lower embedded energy consumption and improve sustainability; enable scalable production of carbon fiber and lower production costs; and enhance competition and resilience in the United States industrial base.
Not later than June 1, 2023, the Secretary of Defense shall provide to the congressional defense committees a report of the findings of the review described in subsection (a), including any recommendations the Secretary may have for ensuring the Department of Defense access to sustainable, affordable, and domestically produced carbon fiber.
