Sec. 5596. Report on humanitarian situation and food security in Lebanon

Not later than 90 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of State, in consultation with the Secretary of Defense and in coordination with the Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development, shall submit to the appropriate congressional committees a report that contains an evaluation of the humanitarian situation in Lebanon, as well as the impact of the deficit of wheat imports due to Russia’s further invasion of Ukraine, initiated on February 24, 2022. The report required by subsection
(a)shall include the following elements: The projected increase in malnutrition in Lebanon. The estimated increase in the number of food insecure individuals in Lebanon. The estimated number of individuals who will be faced with acute malnutrition due to food price inflation in Lebanon. Actions United States Government allies and partners are taking to address the matters described in paragraphs (1), (2), and (3). The potential impact of food insecurity in Lebanon on Department of Defense goals and objectives in Lebanon. The report required by subsection
(a)shall be submitted in an unclassified form, but may contain a classified annex. In this section, the term appropriate congressional committees means— the Committee on Armed Services, the Committee on Foreign Relations, and the Committee on Appropriations of the Senate; and the Committee on Armed Services, the Committee on Foreign Affairs, and the Committee on Appropriations of the House of Representatives.
