Not later than 90 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Agriculture shall— assess existing use of the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail in accordance with the National Trails System Act ( 16 U.S.C. 1241 et seq. ) and the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail Comprehensive Management Plan of the Forest Service; and in accordance with the National Forest Management Act of 1976 ( 16 U.S.C. 472a et seq. ) and part 219 of title 36, Code of Federal Regulations (or successor regulations) establish, though a land and resource management plan revision or amendment, management direction for the portion of the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail within the Mount Hood National Forest, including desired conditions, standards, and guidelines to ensure adequate management and protection of the nature, purposes, significance, and fundamental resources and values of such Trail, and to enhance high quality recreation opportunities for travel on foot or horseback.
