The President shall prohibit the importation of all petroleum products (as such term is defined in section 3 of the Energy Policy and Conservation Act ( 42 U.S.C. 6202 )) originating from Iran into the customs territory of the United States (as such term is defined in General Note 2 of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule). The President is authorized to use appropriate authorities to impose such civil or criminal penalties as may be necessary to enforce the prohibition under subsection (a).
For purposes of this section, the term appropriate congressional committees means— the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President Pro Tempore of the Senate; the Committee on Appropriations, the Committee on Foreign Affairs, the Committee on Armed Services, the Committee on Energy and Commerce, and the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence of the House of Representatives; and the Committee on Appropriations, the Committee on Foreign Relations, the Committee on Armed Services, the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, and the Select Committee on Intelligence of the Senate.
