Sec. 31044. Funding to grow and diversify the maternal mental health and substance use disorder treatment workforce

In addition to amounts otherwise available, there is appropriated to the Secretary for fiscal year 2022, out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, $75,000,000, to remain available until expended, for grants to health professions schools, academic health centers, State or local governments, territories, Indian Tribes and Tribal organizations, Urban Indian organizations, Native Hawaiian organizations, or other appropriate public or private nonprofit entities (or consortia of entities, including entities promoting multidisciplinary approaches), to establish or expand programs to grow and diversify the maternal mental health and substance use disorder treatment workforce.
Amounts made available by subsection
(a)shall be used for the following activities: Establishing programs that provide education and training to individuals seeking appropriate licensing or certification as mental health or substance use disorder treatment providers who plan to specialize in maternal mental health conditions or substance use disorders. Expanding the capacity of existing programs described in paragraph (1), for the purposes of increasing the number of students enrolled in such programs, including by awarding scholarships for students. Developing and implementing strategies to recruit and retain students from underserved communities into programs described in paragraphs
(1)and (2).
