In addition to amounts otherwise available, there is appropriated to the National Science Foundation (referred to in this section as the Foundation ) for fiscal year 2022, out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated— $668,000,000, to remain available until September 30, 2026, to fund or extend new and existing research awards, traineeships, scholarships, and fellowships administered by the National Science Foundation, across all science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines supported by the National Science Foundation, and for related administrative expenses; $25,000,000, to remain available until September 30, 2028, for activities and research to ensure broad demographic participation in the activities of the Foundation, consistent with the goals under section 526(a)(7) of the America COMPETES Reauthorization Act of 2010 ( 42 U.S.C. 1862p-14(a)(7) ) and section 3(e) of the National Science Foundation Act of 1950 ( 42 U.S.C. 1862(e) ), and for related administrative expenses; and $500,000,000, to remain available until September 30, 2028, for climate change research as it relates to fundamental understanding of physical, chemical, biological, and human systems and the interactions among them, and for related administrative expenses.
