The Department of Energy Research and Innovation Act ( 42 U.S.C. 18601 et seq. ) is amended by adding after section 310 as added by this title, the following: The Director— shall carry out a program in coordination with other relevant programs across the Department for the production of isotopes, including the development of techniques to produce isotopes, that the Secretary determines are needed for research, medical, industrial, or related purposes, to the maximum extent practicable, in accordance with the 2015 Nuclear Science Advisory Committee ‘Meeting Isotope Needs and Capturing Opportunities For The Future’ report; and shall ensure that isotope production activities carried out under the program under this paragraph do not compete with private industry unless the Director determines that critical national interests require the involvement of the Federal Government.
There are authorized to be appropriated to carry out the program under this section— $90,000,000 for fiscal year 2022; $96,300,000 for fiscal year 2023; $103,041,000 for fiscal year 2024; $110,253,870 for fiscal year 2025; and $117,971,641 for fiscal year 2026. .
