Section 333 of the William M.
(Mac)Thornberry National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021 ( Public Law 116–283 ) is amended— in the section heading— by inserting after or purchase ; and procurement by striking and inserting perfluorooctane sulfonate or perfluorooctanoic acid ; perfluoroalkyl substances or polyfluoroalkyl substances in subsection (a), by striking perfluorooctane sulfonate
(PFOS)or perfluorooctanoic acid
(PFOA)and inserting any perfluoroalkyl substance or polyfluoroalkyl substance ; and by striking subsection
(b)and inserting the following new subsection (b): In this section: The term covered item means— nonstick cookware or cooking utensils for use in galleys or dining facilities; upholstered furniture, carpets, and rugs that have been treated with stain-resistant coatings; food packaging materials; furniture or floor waxes; sunscreen; umbrellas, luggage, or bags; car wax and car window treatments; cleaning products; and shoes and clothing for which treatment with a perfluoroalkyl substance or polyfluoroalkyl substance is not necessary for an essential function. The term perfluoroalkyl substance means a man-made chemical of which all of the carbon atoms are fully fluorinated carbon atoms. The term polyfluoroalkyl substance means a man-made chemical containing at least one fully fluorinated carbon atom and at least one nonfluorinated carbon atom. .
