Sec. 1253. Report on intelligence matters regarding Taiwan

Consistent with section 3(c) of the Taiwan Relations Act ( Public Law 96–8 ; 22 U.S.C. 3302(c) ), and consistent with the protection of intelligence sources and methods, not later than 180 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Director of National Intelligence, in consultation with the Secretary of Defense, shall submit to the congressional defense committees, the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives, and the Select Committee on Intelligence and the Committee on Foreign Relations of the Senate a report on any— influence operations conducted by China to interfere in or undermine peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific region; and efforts by the United States to work with Taiwan to disrupt such operations.
The report required by subsection
(a)shall include the following: A description of any significant efforts by the intelligence community (as such term is defined in section 3(4) of the National Security Act of 1947 ( 50 U.S.C. 3003(4) )) to coordinate technical and material support for Taiwan to identify, disrupt, and combat influence operations referred to in subsection (a)(1). A description of any efforts by the United States Government to build the capacity of Taiwan to disrupt external efforts that degrade its free and democratic society. An assessment to achieve measurable progress in enhancing the intelligence community’s cooperation with Taiwan, including through— development of strategies to engage Taiwan in the discussions of United States-leading intelligence forums or dialogues; an evaluation of the feasibility of cooperating with Taiwan in the Mandarin language education and training for the United States’ intelligence community through the Foreign Language Incentive Program and programs under the Intelligence Language Institute; and implementing steps to increase exchanges and mutual visits between the intelligence communities of the United States and Taiwan at all levels in accordance with the Taiwan Travel Act ( Public Law 115–135 ) The report required by subsection
(a)shall be submitted in unclassified form, but may include a classified annex.
